Value Added: America's Manufacturing Future

Dismissed for decades by policymakers, economists, and much of the American public as a dying sector, manufacturing is making a comeback.

Mike Lind and Joshua Freedman of our Economic Growth program dive deeper into the state of manufacturing and lay out a plan for policymakers to encourage innovation and ensure Americans reap the economic benefits.

Lind and Freedman, who explain their vision in the paper "Value Added: America's Manufacturing Future," suggest a bold set of policies that include federal support for R&D, infrastructure investment to lower domestic manufacturing costs, tax reform, government support for on-the-job training, and trade policies that better protect American companies.
