Cautious Optimism on Ryan's Budget

The Committee for a Responsible Federal Budget has put out an analysis of Rep. Paul Ryan's budget proposal, which would reduce the national debt from 73 percent of GDP at the end of FY 2012 to 62 percent in 2022. CRFB noted its similarity to the plan the House Budget Committee chairman presented last year, but called attention in particular to a different approach to Medicare.

In a press release about the Ryan proposal, CRFB president Maya MacGuineas applauded the Budget chairman's debt reduction efforts. But, she raised concerns that a considerable amount of savings in his budget comes from politically untenable proposals.
